The Ancestral Schwanthaler Family House

Ried im Innkreis, Oberösterreich, Österreich
In 1669, Thomas Schwanthaler bought the "half-brick, half-wooden dwelling" in Priesterzeile.
The house was owned by the sculptor family until 1838, five generations of which branched out from Ried to other places (Vienna, Krems, Passau, Gmunden) and two further generations worked in Munich (Ludwig von Schwanthaler, creator of the "Bavaria").
The most important Schwanthalers in Ried are Thomas (1634 - 1707), Franz (1683 - 1762) and Johann Peter the Elder (1720 - 1795). The memorial frieze was added when Priesterzeile was renamed Schwanthalergasse in 1868. Numerous works by Schwanthaler can be found not only in the church in Ried, but also in many churches in the surrounding area.

The commemorative frieze was installed on the occasion of the renaming of Priesterzeile to Schwanthalergasse in 1868. Numerous Schwanthaler works can be found not only in the church in Ried, but also in many churches in the surrounding area.
