Pilgrimage leads to the centre and gives the soul space to breathe. As much as we appreciate the good aspects of our prosperity, we realise that it alone cannot satisfy our longing for the meaning of life. People go on pilgrimages because they are looking for something: Clarity for their lives, comfort and help for difficult life tasks - there are many reasons that motivate people to set off on a pilgrimage to a place of grace. No one walks the path alone, we are part of a greater whole, part of a story that has a good destination.
Pilgrim rooms are available.
The pilgrimage church itself was built between 1860 and 1863. The solemn consecration of the church took place on 28 October 1863. Maria Schmolln became its own parish in 1867. In 1880, the Chapel of Grace was added to the pilgrimage church. The chapel houses the miraculous image of the Blessed Virgin Mary from 1735, which is the origin of the pilgrimage and our village of Maria Schmolln. The interior of the church was completely renovated in the early 1990s and the high and side altars were refurbished and solemnly consecrated on 17 October 1993. In recent years, a modern pilgrimage fountain, which recalls the origins of the pilgrimage, and a peace monument with St Francis have been erected.
