Ried's downtown center is a gem - dominated by the lining up of four historical squares. The medieval plan of Ried is that of a rectangular town. The Main Square passes through the center from east to west. A vaulted arcade links the Main Square with the southbound Church Square. To the north lies the lovely Roß Market while the west is defined by the Stelzhamer Square, that is joined to the Church Square by Schwanthaler Alley and Church Lane.
The longwise and slightly curved Main Square is encircled by magnificent housefronts and buildings where the town´s Bavarian history can be traced. The Square boasts a beautiful market fountain that is towered by a statue of Dietmar the Anhanger. The lower part of the Square has always been the Market Place.
