Back in 2000, Kirchheim (pop. 720) in the Innviertel region of Upper Austria (AT) joined the so-called "Foundation of Cultural Villages of Europe" or "Charter of Villages". Kirchheim im Innkreis is the first municipality in Austria to become a member of this international organisation, which aims to promote village life and rural development.
