Symphonic Wind Orchestra Ried

In recent years, the Ried Symphonic Wind Orchestra has developed into a seal of quality in Austrian symphonic wind music. As a result of years of consistent work, the orchestra has developed from a pre-school wind orchestra at the Ried State Music School into a leading international ensemble.

The final breakthrough to the international top was the World Championship in Kerkrade, which takes place every 4 years, where the SBO-Ried was the first Austrian orchestra in the 50-year history of this most important international competition to play in the top field in 2001.

In 2003, this success was confirmed by the highest rating of an orchestra for years at the renowned International Orchestra Competition in Valencia.

In March 2004, the SBO-Ried gave its debut concert at the Brucknerhaus Linz.
In the fall of the same year, the first DVD production was presented to the public.
In 2005, the SBO-Ried took part in the WorldMusicContest in Kerkrade in the Concert Division for the first time.

In 2006, special highlights awaited the orchestra again with the presentation of the 2nd DVD "Heimspiel" and the guest visit of the American composer Stephen Melillo with workshops and an acclaimed concert in the Brucknerhaus Linz.

The 2007 spring concerts presented a top soloist, Günter Voglmayr, from the Vienna Philharmonic, with whom a multi-year collaboration was agreed.
The honorable invitation of the SBO-Ried to participate in the OPEN DUTCH CONTEST in Kerkrade in the Concert Division and an outstanding performance with 3rd place overall is further proof of the high level and international reputation of the orchestra.

The orchestra's 20th anniversary was celebrated on October 26, 2008 with a brilliant concert in the Brucknerhaus Linz.

In May 2009, the SBO-RIED won the International Orchestra Competition in Vöcklabruck at the highest level and once again proved its international class at the WORLD MUSIC CONTEST in Kerkrade.
In addition to several concert appearances, a CD production with the flute soloist Günter Voglmayr was also on the program this year.

The new DVD "Last World Standing" will be presented to the public in January 2010.
In 2010, Richard Strauss' ALPENSINFONIE also awaits the orchestra as a major challenge.

The SBO-Ried regularly commissions works from local and international composers (e.g. Thomas Doss, Albin Zaininger, Alois Wimmer, Stephen Melillo, Franco Cesarini,...). ).
In addition to orchestral music-making, special emphasis is also placed on the cultivation of chamber music. The SBO-RIED-SINFONIETTA presents an annual chamber music project with flexible instrumentation.

The ranks of the orchestra have already produced many bandmasters and youth leaders for local bands. The SBO-Ried is therefore also significantly involved in the quality development of regional wind orchestras.

The orchestra has been conducted by Karl Geroldinger since its foundation.
