Naturium am Inn

Ering, Bayern, Deutschland

Naturium am Inn is the visitor, nature conservation and environmental education center at the Lower Inn European Nature Reserve, which opened in 2020. Here you can experience nature without borders - in the truest sense of the word: in two exhibitions in Ering (Bavaria) and Frauenstein (Upper Austria) and at a total of six experience stations, there is plenty to discover and marvel at.

Lower Inn European Nature Reserve - an important hub in the intercontinental network of waterfowl habitats. The Bavarian-Upper Austrian Lower Inn European Nature Reserve stretches across the border for 55 kilometers of river from the mouth of the Salzach near the village of Haiming, downstream to Neuhaus/Schärding.

It consists of water areas, mud banks and islands covering an area of around 5500 hectares. In this nature and bird sanctuary there are still untouched riparian forests and numerous water and other birds. Rare plants and animals, such as the beaver, can also be found here.

History: The Romans called the Inn AENUS, the foaming one. Until the middle of the 19th century, it remained the most unrestrained Alpine river with its meandering course and widely branching tributaries.

Naturium Ering

At Naturium Ering, the exhibition invites you to discover the habitats along the Lower Inn - whether in the walk-through alluvial forest, with fascinating photos of untouched nature or small experiments on the formation of the reservoir islands. Right at the entrance, you can find out which bird species are currently present in the area. The Naturium team will also provide you with information and free information material about nature and leisure activities as well as the events and offers of the Naturium am Inn.

Opening hours Naturium Ering:
April-September: daily 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
October-March: daily 10 am - 4 pm
24.12.-06.01.: closed
Naturium Ering is barrier-free. Admission is free of charge.

Naturium Frauenstein Castle

Frauenstein Castle is located directly on the River Inn and is a popular resting place for cyclists. Here you can fortify yourself with all kinds of delicacies in the Burgschänke Frauenstein with its idyllic guest garden.
The third floor of the rustic "Salzstadl" has been completely redesigned: in the interactive exhibition at Naturium Schloss Frauenstein, visitors can marvel at the Inn and the world of birds. What routes do our migratory birds cover and what does a flood sound like? Try it out for yourself! The dormer windows offer a wide view over the reservoir - and thanks to binoculars, fascinating insights into the world of birds.

Opening hours Naturium Schloss Frauenstein:
May-September: daily 10:30-20 hrs,
closed in winter.
Admission is free of charge.
